The Lonely Goat Herder
"High on a hill was a lonely goatherd"
This weekend I drove to Stowe, VT, about an hour north of my new abode in Sharon, VT. The D'Ovidio / Brown clan invited me to the Green Mountain Inn, home of the Whip Bar & Grill...where indeed there is a display case of some pretty interesting antique buggy whips.
Stowe is home to Stowe Ski area on Mt. Mansfield (where I plan to do some snowboarding later this winter), as well as home to the (von) Trapp Family Lodge. As you can imagine there were lots of Sound of Music songs in my head all weekend. The view from the lodge was fantastic, but other than that, it wasn't really that exciting. I did learn that Maria was actually raised as an atheist and socialist, so was not always as devout as I thought.
We also visited the Cabot Cheese Annex in Waterbury (where I purchased Harpoon IPA Beer Cheese and some Smokey Bacon Cheddar--Cabot Cheese rocks!), and stopped by the Ben & Jerry's Factory in Waterbury too.
